Teachers, you are able to receive three (3) Continuing Education Units from Saint Mary's College, Moraga, California, by participating in this project.

To receive credit you will need to:

• Register and pay the registration fee
• Design a unit of instruction and implement it in your classroom
• Evaluate the effectiveness of your unit
• Submit your completed unit to us

Registration

Register for three (3) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by downloading, printing and completing the registration form. The registration form is a PDF file so you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 or better to download and print it. If you don't have Acrobat Reader installed on your computer, you can download it here.

Design An Instructional Unit

Design and implement a unit of instruction.

Great resources published by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) for designing effective instructional units and evaluation tools are:

• Wiggins, Grant and Jay McTighe. Understanding by Design. Alexandria, Virginia: Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, 1998. There is a companion website with examples of units and a template for unit design.

Evaluate Your Unit

Once you have implemented your instructional unit, evaluate the effectiveness of it in terms of student learning. We will provide you with a simple evaluation tool to accomplish this after the expedition takes place.

Submit Your Unit

Lastly, once you have designed, implemented and evaluated your unit of instruction send it to us. We ask that all instructional units be word processed and submitted in either AppleWork, or Microsoft Word file formats.

We will send you complete directions for submitting your unit after the expedition is over.
